Building Cultural Capacity - Part 2

Building Cultural Capacity
Part 2 – Social Communication and Problem Solving
Facilitated by Roger Parent

This intermediate level workshop develops the capacity of participants to identify and address cultural needs through action-oriented initiatives. Building Cultural Capacity – Part Two will provide participants with an additional 10 practical techniques for reinforcing their ability to understand a cultural system and to act on the basis of the cultural insights achieved. Particular attention is paid to the orality and life-story in gathering accurate data on a specific culture’s current state of development (past, present and anticipated future). Participants will learn how to look at a problem through the lens of cultural analysis or mapping, revealing systemic needs that participants then prioritize and meet through creative project design.

This one-day, interactive workshop offers participants a methodology and process for fleshing out their community development project through dialogue and collaboration with community and professional partners. Participants will have an opportunity to communicate their project idea to their peers and develop a template to ensure that they have the adequate resources and mentoring or support need to implement a project capable of answering a specific cultural need and mentoring needed.
